So with the decision to go into Part-Time work it's given me the opportunity to invest more time into The Polkadotte - which is perfect for me! Over the last few months I've been attending various markets & fairs to show the public what I have to offer and I've had the best time!
My first was a fair up in my Screenprinting Friends neck of the woods at Sewerby Summer Gala and it was a gorgeous day! As most market/fair traders will know the initial set up is pretty pricey! It's easy to forget that as a customer the amount of time and effort the person whos stall you're looking at has put in to attending that event! It literally took me weeks to prepare! Making stock, pricing up, marketing ideas, creating packaging, business cards etc, then after all that I had to decide on a layout!
It's been a lot of trial and error and with each stall I learn a little something different. It's also been super helpful to chat to some of the regular traders at the events because you get a better idea of what an average day at an event is. Nothing more disheartening than turning up on a bad week and not selling much, but it's a little reassuring to know everyone else is in the same boat :)
A few things I've learnt so far is obviously preparation is key and so is enthusiasm! Go into each event open minded and stick it out. You've paid for the full day - so stay! Don't overwhelm your customers with too much choice, be selective and keep things neat, makes its much easier for your customers to browse and see what really takes their interest. I'm still picking up little ideas and tips each time I attend and I'm also realising what really doesn't work, it'll be different for each person so just trial and error is best!

Classroom Ideas!
So last summer my sister graduated from her PGCE and got a job as a
teacher in a little school over the bridge (The Humber Bridge for all
you none Hullians out there!) I was roped into helping her decorate her
classroom as it was pretty boring, and she wanted to make a good first
impression on her kids! I wish I'd taken before pictures, but I didn't
(I felt a bit wierd taking photos of a school classroom?!), but just try
to imagine a pretty grubby boring room, with bland decorations, no
colour scheme, and no real order to it.
Sorry the picture is a bit pants - I thought I had more than this! We had a yellow & green colour scheme & had cute little apple & pear tins in each desk tidy! It all went together really well and from what I heard my sister had endless compliments of how beautiful the room looked! We even had a big brick wall display which I think was to become a 'work wall' which went down a treat too!
This year I think I'm being roped in for makeover number two! I quite enjoyed it last year so I've been searching the net for some snazzy ideas and I've got a couple of things I'm excited to make to hang in the classroom (with the teachers approval of course) & I'd love some suggestions from any of you guys?! What do you think would have inspired you to learn in the classroom when you were a kid?

Favourite DIY
So this summer, I MUST start making everything I've bookmarked &
pinned on Pinterest for future projects. I'm determined! I have so many
materials that I cannot bare to part with as I know as soon as I get rid
of them, I'll have the perfect idea of what to do with it (I'm not
alone on this one right? Everyone else has mountains of materials
everywhere?) Anyway, I found this super cute coaster tutorial on The Purl Bee
that I think will be perfect for summer parties in the garden! I'd be
so upset if I got drinks spilt on them though! I might just have them
for decoration (Nothing in my house is ever going to usable - it'll all
just be for show! Don't even get me started on candles!)
I have the perfect pile of citrus coloured felts I could use for this one. I might even try other fruits too? Watermelon perhaps? Maybe a couple of strawberries?! Eitherway, I'm so excited to get my projects finished and handed in so I can start cracking on these bad boys & everything else on my list of things to do!

Favourite DIY Find
I'm forever hunting for tutorials and DIY's on the net and pinning them onto my Pinterest & tell myself that ONE DAY I will do them! I thought I'd start to share with you one of my favvourites a week, that way at least if I don't get round to doing them I'll be glad I've shared them with you guys and perhaps inspired you to do them too! & Hopefully when I actually finish me degree and maybe have spare time, I'll be able to do my own DIY tutorials & share them with you! :-)
This weeks is how to cover your vintage suitcases with some vintage floral fabric. I recently found a pair of vintage suitcases and I'm battling between attempting this DIY and possibly ruining a) some gorgeous vintage fabric and b) my suitcase! But I think I just need to take the plunge and do it!
Head over to A Beautiful Mess & check out her Suitcase Tutorial! She's also got tons of other exciting DIY'S on her blog too & I'm sure as soon as you visit you'll end up an addict like me!

I recently started up a facebook group for the girls on my textiles course & I to share interesting stuff we've found on the web - however instead of spamming the facebook page with tons of links of pretty much every exciting item I've found on the net, I thought I'd share it with you guys too! :-) Hope you like!

| Mark Jenkins - He creates some really cool outdoor installations that would really make you stop and think/freak you out a little if you walked past them in the street. |
![]() |
| Chip It! - A button you can drag to your toolbar and 'colour chip' any image you like the colours in! It doesn't get them dead on (it gives you colour shades specific to the brand of paint) but it gives the general scheme. |
![]() |
| Pinterest - I think most of you will have heard of it, but if you've not signed up, I highly recommend you do! Not only is it a good way to organize all those craft tutorials you find (if your anything like me you have a neverending 'bookmark' list) but it's great to make virtual theme boards for projects & inspiration. |
![]() |
| ArtAtHeart - A nice little blog full of interesting artists work & sculptures. If I'm lacking a bit of inspiration I usually head over here and trawl through their archives! |
![]() |
| The Trend Boutique - Nice for a bit of trend research & inspiration. Plenty of artists work to wet your appetite & jobs are occasionally listed here. You do have to subscribe to read full articles though. (I think) |
![]() |
| Improv Everywhere - These guys are geniuses (sp?). You should all know the Grand Central Station Youtube video where some people freeze & everyone else is really confused? Well these are the guys behind that! Theres a whole load of videos on their site of things they've done in the past! I guarantee it'll put a smile on your face! |
![]() |
| Design Sponge - Another great site filled with inspirational designers work. Guaranteed to get the creative juices flowing in your head! |
