Biomechanics

During my second year at university, We had a project called 'The Beauty of Diagrams'. I posted the video of the exhibition here, & I thought I'd share a little with you about the back up work I did. My choice of word was 'Biomechanics' and at first I was horrified as I didn't even know what the word meant, but after a trip to the library and a quick brain storming sesh, the ideas started bouncing around my head. I really enjoy machine embroidery and I'm known for giving myself really tricky repetitive jobs to do, so why not machine embrioder skeletons? I started playing around with the idea of incorporating movement, which led me to create my embroidered skeleton puppet! Sadly, the puppet went missing at the end of our exhibition :-( So I've not really got any good photographs of it. :-(

Madame Tussauds

I'm way behind on my blogging, I've got so many posts to do and to catch you up on what I've been doing! The other week the Mr. came to stay  and we had an early Valentines day, as we wouldn't be able to see each other on official valentines day. We spent the weekend doing fun things and took a trip to Manchester on the Saturday and spent a lot of time shopping & on the Sunday we used our 2-4-1 voucher and took a trip to Madame Tussauds and got papped with some celebs! Here are some piccies from our trip! Hope you like!

I apologise for the quality of some of these photos! I was playing around with making the certain pixel sizes, and the Mr's photography isn't the best! I need to give him a lesson in how to use a camera!

The Office U.S

Ok, So lately - as usual, I have massive distractions from doing my uni work, and the US Office is a massive one! I've seen a couple of episodes of the British one with Ricky Gervais, and I don't know if its because of my undeniable love of Steve Carell, but I'm full on addicted to the US one! Anyone who hasn't seen it, HAS TO! I'm watching it on Netflix (which is currently offering a free 1 month trial) so you have no excuse not to watch it! :-)

P.s I also have a massive crush on Jim.

New Page!

If your an eagle eyed blog viewer, you'll have noticed I've added a cheeky new page to the blog! 'My work' is basically what it says on the tin - I've added a ton of pictures of my uni work - quite a lot I want to develop on in my own time, and looking through all the previous work has kind of inspired me to do so... so watch this space!

Winter Wedding!

Eek! (I say 'eek' far too much!) So my cousin is getting married this winter (27th December) and I'm so excited! I've never been to a winter wedding - only summer ones, so I'm on the hunt for a perfect dress for the wedding already! I like to buy dresses for weddings earlier as I think theres less chance of someone turning up wearing the same dress as me if I buy wayyy in advance! Here are some lovelies I've got my eye on! :-)

Vintage Suitcases!

Eek! A few weeks ago I stumbled across an absolute bargain from a new charity shop that opened up in town, and I got myself two vintage suitcases! Both are in awesome condition with their keys and locks still working and everything! Couldn't be more impressed with my find! :)

Fancy Dress!

This weekend it was my housemates 21st birthday! I made her a big scrapbook full of photos from her time at uni - I think she quite liked it! :-) We listened to cheesy 90's music and had a really good laugh all night and I thought I'd share a piccy of our costumes! :-)

Have a nice day! :-)

Dorothy Shoes!

So it was my housemates 21st birthday party and we decided on a movie character theme! Everyones costumes were amazing! & We had so much fun! - I loved making my costume! I went as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! I've always wanted to be Dorothy (who hasn't?!) & I made myself a sparkly pair of red heels! Heres how...

1. Find yourself an old pair of heels.
2. Cover half of the shoe in PVA glue.
3.Sprinkle glitter over half of shoe (do this over paper!) and shake excess off.
4. Repeat for other half of shoe.
5. Leave to dry overnight (this is really important to make sure they're properly dry - I made the mistake of being too eager to do the next step and the glitter just started to slide off!)
5. When shoe is COMPLETELY dry - coat in a really thick layer of polyurathane gloss to stop the glitter flaking off and to make them waterproof.
6. When gloss is dry - pierce holes into the side of the shoes - I did this by using a hammer & nail and teasing the hole bigger wit a pair of embroidery scissors.
7. Thread matching ribbon through the hole & tie!
8. Voila! Magic Dorothy Shoes Complete :-)

Pete Goldlust

So during a bit of research hunting - I came across this super cool guy that carves wax crayons - how on earth he does it I have no idea! But these are amaze!

Busy!

Eek! You can tell I'm back at uni as I've been a bit quiet on the blogging front! I'm trying to get myself organised and back into the swing of things! I've got a few more blog posts planned for this week, so hopefully they'll be a bit more going on over here! :-)

10 Highlights of 2011

So twentyeleven has been a pretty eventful year! I'm grateful for a lot of things that have happened and feel myself growing into a better person which each experience I encounter.

2011 was the year I started my small business. Though it's not official yet - this is something I hope to happen in 2012, I'm still proud of the progress I've made and the success I've had in the first - especially because I haven't focused on it full time. It all strated with mum buying me lots of lovely crafty presents for Christmas last year, and me making lots of stuff to sell to earn some pennies whilst at Uni!
My Boy turned 21 this year & it was also our 2 year anniversary. The time has flown past and though we have our ups and downs I know the time we've had to spend apart has made us a stronger couple. he had a lovely party with lots of family & friends and I enjoyed being up in the thick of it in his week long celebrations :-)
I also finished my second year of Uni. It absolutely flew past! I definately had my struggles and a few breakdowns but I survived it - and got a few firsts along the way! I might not be proud of going to uni all the time as I'm too busy being stressed - but I'm proud of the work & effort I've put in and I look forward to finishing and seeing where the degree leads me.
I was also very proud when my Boy graduated from uni! We had a lovely day - despite him being grumpy from having to wear his cap and gown, but I felt very proud when he went on stage and got his degree :-) To add to the proudness, he managed to get himself an incredible job from his degree, which opened up a new chapter in his life, which I'll soon be joining!(hopefully!)
My beautiful cousin Clare got married this summer. The ceremony and recepetion were gorgeous and I loved every minute of it. With having such a big family it's not often we all get to meet up so I make sure I appreciate every minute of it when we do. The day was perfect.

My boy also took me on a surprise little trip away. This came from me being annoyed at him for waking up late :-P so he made it up to me by telling me to pack my bags and he was coming to get me! I love spontaniety and I think in a relationship like ours its good for us to have a bit of freedom in a space which is neither mine or his.
I've also moved into my third year of uni. With this has come a lot of stress, time management problems and general hardwork. I plan on keeping up my momentum, or even improving it, and really trying hard to power through the last few months to give myself the best oppurtuinties when I finish!
Twentyeleven also brought along my first craft stall - on my own(nearly). I did one at the beginning of the year as part of my business module - but this was a lot more hardwork. However it was really sucessful and it brings me high hopes for the future!
I also turned 21 this year! We all dressed as crayons and had a fab night! :-)

My love for charity shop shopping has grown to a whole new level this year, and I cannot WAIT till I learn to drive and I can go hunting all over for some lovely old things! I love the fact that you always find something different and everything always has so much character! I'm obsessed!

And that is about it... lots more has happened but overall I think twentyeleven has taught me a lot and I'm a lot more thankful than I was in twentyten!
Hope you all had a lovely year :-)
