Shop Update!

Got a few new little bits been added to the shop today! My 'office' today is my bed. Gorgeous sunny day here in Hull so I've got the blinds up and I'm in my giant princess bed under the quilt with my laptop having a lazy -but still productive - lazy day! I love my job! Haha!

There's an exciting change on the way for The Polkadotte, once everything is finalised I'll be super excited to share it with you all! Just don't want to jinx it by divulging too much just yet! So in the mean time I'll be super busy planning it all and being all official and businessy!

Today's job in the mean time however is getting some new bits listed in the shop!
Did you know I photograph all the stock myself? I don't use stock photos - mainly because I don't like them but also because some of the items I make myself! - so they're are no stock photos! I like to try and keep the branding all the same so the photos flow and look consistant so I like to stick with a simple polkadot background and switch the colours up every now and then. What do you use for the backgrounds I hear you ask?!... I just print out some patterned paper! Nothing wrong with simplicity I say!

I like to try and capture 5 pictures of each of the items, different angles and close ups just to get a fuller idea of the piece that you're wanting to buy! It's surprisingly tricky to convey aspects of jewellery just simply through pictures - I'm one of those that love to pick everything up and feel it with my hands!

I can't just photograph my stock at any time of day or in any weather though! Dull days are terrible for photography - dim light means I'd have to edit the photo and turn it brighter which often ruins the white balance and can make photos look super blue or orangey yellow - which isn't nice and crisp like I like them to look! So on a lovely sunny day like this - photographing takes priority! Which can often mean having to cancel social plans just to jump on the opportunity!

Happiness

It's been a little while since I last checked in. As always.

I'm still at Muse, & working on The Polkadotte in every spare hour I have. Christmas went excellently, I've joined back at the gym & I've made some fabulous new friends. I'm in an unbelievably good place and I love to spread a little cheer around everywhere I go and try my best to stick a smile on someones face. I've learnt not to let things get me down - and if I do, I give them a day. Thats it. That's all the attention it gets, then I wake up the next day, fresh and happy again.

I'm such an advocate in encouraging people to do what makes them happy. Hate your job? Quit. People bringing you down? Leave them. Life if way to short to be unhappy. Find what you love and DO NOT STOP.

Markets & Fairs!

So with the decision to go into Part-Time work it's given me the opportunity to invest more time into The Polkadotte - which is perfect for me! Over the last few months I've been attending various markets & fairs to show the public what I have to offer and I've had the best time!

My first was a fair up in my Screenprinting Friends neck of the woods at Sewerby Summer Gala and it was a gorgeous day! As most market/fair traders will know the initial set up is pretty pricey! It's easy to forget that as a customer the amount of time and effort the person whos stall you're looking at has put in to attending that event! It literally took me weeks to prepare! Making stock, pricing up, marketing ideas, creating packaging, business cards etc, then after all that I had to decide on a layout!

It's been a lot of trial and error and with each stall I learn a little something different. It's also been super helpful to chat to some of the regular traders at the events because you get a better idea of what an average day at an event is. Nothing more disheartening than turning up on a bad week and not selling much, but it's a little reassuring to know everyone else is in the same boat :)

A few things I've learnt so far is obviously preparation is key and so is enthusiasm! Go into each event open minded and stick it out. You've paid for the full day - so stay! Don't overwhelm your customers with too much choice, be selective and keep things neat, makes its much easier for your customers to browse and see what really takes their interest. I'm still picking up little ideas and tips each time I attend and I'm also realising what really doesn't work, it'll be different for each person so just trial and error is best!

New stock!

So I've been looking into new suppliers for my stock. I've managed to find some pretty cool things that  i know you'd guys would love.  A lot of people ask if I make EVERYTHING by hand and as much as I'd love to, sometimes it's actually easier for me to buy ready made. The jewellery market is pretty saturated especially online these days and its difficult to keep my prices competitive! But i figure if the product is great then it's all good  ☺ so here's a little round up...

New Life!

So things have settled down a little lately! I'm loving my new job at English Muse and all the wonderful people I've already met from it! Makes me miss living round the Avenues as its such a gorgeous creative community, so happy I'm back round there and working though! In case you're not from Hull, Newland Avenue & Princes Avenue is a super cute creative part of Hull and its primarily full of students as it's close by to the uni - thus making it super cool and rather trendy!

The English Muse is a Gorgeous (with a capital G) little cafĂ© with the most beautiful front windows. I work primarily in the kitchen cooking up huge pans of tasty Veggie soups and toasting some toastys! I love that it's nothing like my other jobs and I have a little freedom with it and can make things look nice and pretty! Never did I think that anyone actually enjoyed their jobs - having worked at other places and just kept on plodding on because it paid the bills, this new venture is a revelation to me! I love it!

I love to encourage people to do more of what makes them happy so I'd love to inspire anyone to sack off their jobs that make them unhappy and go do what does make you happy! I've felt such a change of the last month or so in myself and I can truly say I'm happy! I'm terrified about money - don't get me wrong haha - but money isn't everything :-)

You'll only hate Mondays if you hate your job.

I'm back!

I'm sorry I've been AWOL for quite some time! I made the decision to work full time and the business took a back step. It's been growing steadily since and now I've made the decision to cut down my hours, take a new job (in a gorgeous little cafe) and refocus my energy into my little baby! (the business!)

I've got a new zest of inspiration and I'm very excited and giddy for all that is to come! Lots of happy exciting new things in the pipeline and I'm excited to share it with you all!

Watch this space!

xoxo

Violet

Last year I gave my home to this little princess. Someone was just giving her away on Gumtree. The whole thing was super sketchy and I'm so pleased that I was able to rescue her! She lived on an awful council estate in a house full of dogs and she was just called 'cat', the people hadn't even bothered giving her a name :(. So... meet Violet. She's an absolute sweetie and a pain in my bum! The worlds most expensive cat racking up over £500 in vet bills in less than 6 months and smashing a brand new 42 Inch Tv after only having it for 30days. She loves 'duck on a stick', nuzzling into my dressing gown, lying on her back and farting all day long. She even has her own toy shelf, which she routes through to find the specific toy she fancies playing with.

I've turned into a total crazy cat lady but I kinda love it. and her.

Shop Update

I've been a super busy bee lately! I took two weeks off from the day job and spent a good majority locked away in my work room updating the Ebay Shop! I sadly let the business slide downhill very quickly, when I started a new job a few years ago and moved in with my then partner. But! Alas! A new friend encouraged me to get back into it and now I'm so happy I did. If you know me personally you'll know I like to be kept busy, as much as I like a lazy day every now and then I've always got to be doing something (very rarely am I sat still!) So having the shop back up and running gives me a feeling of having more purpose and productivity.

I used to get frustrated the shop because it was very much in dribs and drab, however now the photos are much better and the listings are all neatly to the same format, so I feel like its a lot more organised and less messy - which is a definite plus for me & my OCD!

The majority of my stock is listed on the ebay shop...

and slowly but surely I'll be using my spare time to share the listings across to Etsy.

I've still got lots of work I still need to do, but now that business has taken of again, it's definite motivation to continue on with it!

Wedding!

Last summer my wonderful cousin Matthew got married to his beautiful fiance Rebecca. It was at a beautiful old manor house (For  the life of me  I can't remember its name!)
me and Mary brother were invited to the evening do whilst the rest of the family were at the ceremony so we joined them later on. it was my brothers last family visit before he moved to Australia, so it was a nice special day to all spend together before he left us for a year (Or more!)
I managed to squeeze into my Polkadot (The Polkadotte - in polkadots?!) dress that I'd bought years before with the hopes of wearing it to a wedding, but then I got fat and couldn't fit, but then I got skinny and then could! *yeay!*
It was a lovely afternoon - mainly spent getting drunk with my brother, and dancing to the live band that played various Indie songs of our teenage years!
